The Boer Goat originated in South Africa where the Afrikaner word "Boer" means farm. The Boer Goat has been a registered breed in South Africa since 1959, and is raised strictly for its meat. The Boer Goat can be easily recognized by it's large framed white body, roman nose, pendulous ears, and reddish brown or light to dark brown head.
Bred for dominance, it has a high resistance to disease, adapts well to various climates and terrains and has outstanding size and rate of growth. The Boer goat reaches puberty early, and with proper care, is able to kid every eight months. These characteristics, combined with the market potential of Boer goat products, have stimulated unprecedented interest in the goat industry. Here at our ranch we have found that cross breeding our African Boers with Kiko's or Savannah 's has substantially reduced parasite problems and feet trimming.
At Dry Creek Ranch we are a member of the American Boer Goat Association which was formed in 1993 and is the largest Boer goat registry in the country. ABGA recognizes both Full-blood and Percentage Boer Goats, but not all Boer Goats need to be registered. Some are raised solely for commercial "meat goat" operations and some for hobby farmers whom like the gentle companionship of these fine animals. Here at Dry Creek Ranch we have 100% South African bloodlines. Our genetics include many Ennoblements, including Kaptein, Pistolero, Moulin Rouge, Scorpio,Top Gun, EggsKnight and Pipeline just to name a few.
With the recent addition of our New Zealand Kiko Sire and our Savannah Sire we have found a very hardy and profitable cross with our African Boer Goats.
DCR is dedicated to natural breeding, raising, and selling of top quality 100% South African Fullblood Boer Goats whose genetics can be traced back to the original South African breeders.
